Romeo’s eyes ist noch zwei Wochen lang zu sehen. Diese erste institutionelle Ausstellung von Simon Lässig und Vera Lutz versammelt neue filmische, fotografische und installative Arbeiten, die sich mit Prozessen des Sehens und Zeigens auseinandersetzen. Zugleich fungiert sie als Präsentationsrahmen für die langjährige dialogische Arbeitsweise von Lässig und Lutz.

Die Praktiken der beiden Künstler*innen vereint ihre Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen Modalitäten von Sprache und Raum. Ihre jeweiligen Arbeiten entfalten sich häufig durch Methoden der Sequenzierung (von Räumen, von Bildern, von Blicken) sowie durch Akte der Wiederholung oder Neu-Rahmung etablierter formaler und narrativer Strategien. Was daraus hervorgeht, ist keine Lösung, sondern eine fortwährende Untersuchung: eine geteilte Aufmerksamkeit für die Prozesse des Sehens und für die stillen Mechanismen von Form, Erinnerung und Bedeutung.

Romeo’s eyes is open for another two weeks. The first institutional exhibition by Simon Lässig and Vera Lutz brings together new filmic, photographic, and installative works that explore the processes of seeing and showing. This is an exhibition of two artists working alongside, and in response to, one another. In this sense, the duo show also serves as a framework for Lässig and Lutz’s ongoing dialogical practice.

The artists’ practices are conjoined through an engagement with different modalities of language and space. Their respective works unfold through methods of sequencing (of rooms, of images, of the gaze) as well as through gestures of recourse to previously established formal and narrative strategies. What emerges is not a resolution, but a sustained inquiry: a shared attentiveness to the processes of seeing and to the quiet operations of form, memory, and meaning.

Linda Bildas Videoarbeit Jungfer, Matrose und Student (1989) ist im Rahmen der Onsite- und Online-Serie Schaufenster zu sehen. Das Video basiert auf einem gleichnamigen Theaterstück von Federico García Lorca und dokumentiert Linda Bildas Diplomarbeit im Bereich Bühnenbild. Die Arbeit markiert eine frühe Auseinandersetzung mit der (Anti-)Heldin als Figur zwischen Identifikation und Projektion. Im Stück erscheint die Jungfrau nie als reale Person, sondern ausschließlich als Film- und Animationsprojektion. Diese doppelte, mediale Präsenz verweist auf zentrale Aspekte von Linda Bildas späterer künstlerischer Praxis, in der sie weibliche Figuren häufig in den Raum übersetzt – als Projektionen oder Licht- und Schattenkörper. Die Videoarbeit weist selbstreflexive Züge auf und wandelt sich von der Dokumentation einer Theateraufführung zu einer Hinterfragung ihrer eigenen Konstruktion – bis hin zum Auftritt der Künstlerin selbst auf der Bühne.

Linda Bilda’s video work Jungfer, Matrose und Student (1989) is on view as part of the onsite and online series Schaufenster. The video is based on a play of the same name by Federico García Lorca, and presents Linda Bilda’s diploma project in stage design. The work marks an early exploration of the (anti-)heroine as both an identification figure and a projection surface. In the play, the maiden never appears as a real person, but solely as a projection—through film and animation. This dual, media-based presence already anticipates key aspects of Linda Bilda’s later artistic practice, in which female figures are often translated into space as projections or as bodies of light and shadow. The video work also incorporates self-reflexive elements, shifting from a documentation of the play to a reflection on its own construction—culminating in the appearance of the artist herself on stage.
